Be there for memories.
Gulf Coast Big Brothers Big Sisters matches children ages 6-17 with caring adult role models in professionally supported one-to-one relationships. Making these matches, and performing all the background work involved with them, is only possible through donations and grants.
Having a trusting and enduring relationship with a Big Brother or Big Sister is not a luxury – it is a necessity. Bigs and Littles come together through our two essential programs:
1. Community Based Mentoring
For as little as an hour a week, Bigs and Littles meet in their community to share fun activities. Consistency is key to forming a positive relationship which impacts both the Big and Little. Learn more…
2. Site Based Mentoring
Sometimes the best place to help a child realize their potential is at a school or workplace. Bigs and Littles meet in a school or work setting for one hour a month to talk and have fun. A staff member is on location for all program sessions to facilitate and support the matches.
Sessions include one-on-one activities that facilitate character building and relationship development. It’s not about being a tutor…it’s about being a friend. Learn more…
How a Big Becomes a Big
A lot of things have to happen before we make a match. It’s also important to note that the entire matching process is made possible through donations — we can’t do what we do best without them!
Contact us today to schedule an appointment to begin the orientation and interview process which includes:
• Complete BBBS application
• Personal references
• Background Check
• Home safety assessment (Community-Based only)
A match may be based on location, personalities and preferences. We provide full support for our volunteer programs along the way so that matches can grow into lasting friendships.
What Bigs and Littles Do
Go fishing. Play sports. Take a cooking class together. Show up. Whatever it is you enjoy, odds are you’ll enjoy it even more with your Little—and you’ll be making a life-changing impact. Just a few hours each month sharing simple things you already enjoy with a young person.
